Consulting

KGT — not just another consultancy.

We made a choice: we only work in the technological areas where we understand the process, the products, the raw materials and the markets deeply enough to engineer the recommendation — not just write it.

Our consulting and project-management portfolio covers what a successful steel project needs: a bankable definition, a sustainable improvement process, a solid engineering basis and all technical and commercial project-management functions in between.

Project definition / pre-operational activities

  • Plant concept studies and capacity scenarios
  • Request-for-quotation (RFQ) preparation
  • Tender evaluation and negotiation support
  • Detailed OPEX definition
  • Detailed project CAPEX estimation
  • Bankable feasibility studies

Project execution

  • Project management on behalf of the project sponsor
  • Basic-engineering review
  • RFQ preparation for non-process equipment and the EPC portion
  • Liaison office and supplier follow-up
  • Claim management
  • Time-schedule management incl. critical-path analysis
Engineering coordination

We are not fortune-tellers.

With the right processes, the right engineering partners and the right assessment tools, the likelihood of finding the most efficient concept for each challenge goes up dramatically. That is a responsibility we take seriously.

Together with affiliated engineering teams in Europe, KGT coordinates basic and detail engineering — including overall layout engineering of complete plants in 2D and 3D — and reviews it on the owner's behalf. Sustainable upfront engineering is crucial for greenfield projects and just as feasible for brownfield and revamping projects: the more technical issues are streamlined before the investment is committed, the lower the execution risk.

Utilise the full potential of your investment & assets

Test the plant before you build it.

Understanding plant logistics at every stage of a project and its operation is of major importance. Through our simulation partners we can model complete steel-plant operations for three situations:

Greenfield

Design your new plant's performance before you invest.

Simulating the complete logistics with all process interactions and transport/handling activities shows whether the designed productivity is actually reached for different production scenarios — and lets you compare layout alternatives before the concrete is poured.

Brownfield

Test the impact of new equipment on your existing operation.

Expansion projects carry the risk that new equipment is badly located or that existing cranes and transfer cars limit the new installation. Upfront simulation stress-tests the configuration and exposes second- and third-level consequences.

Continuous improvement

Test new production procedures with your existing equipment.

Production is crucial, so new process ideas are hard to test live. A simulation studies the effect on the plant without disturbing production or risking output losses.

Project management

Failing to plan is planning to fail.

We provide professional owner's project management to clients worldwide. We deliver value for money through the highest standards of project management, using experienced project managers to realise the business case and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.

  • Project set-up, governance and reporting structure
  • Contract and interface management between owner, suppliers and EPC
  • Milestone and critical-path follow-up
  • Change, claim and risk management (risk register)
  • Commissioning and ramp-up coordination
Services

First we listen carefully — then we act.

KGT and its partner network bring steel-plant operating experience with a specific focus on production ramp-up and process optimisation — measurable results such as higher output, lower OPEX and less maintenance — across meltshops, continuous-casting machines and long-product rolling mills.
